Description

I just learned a new coloring method and I am very exited to apply it to all my future paintings. I also love Neon Katt. She has a pretty cool design.

Hello! I'm from ProjectComment to hand over a critique. Also, I'd like to say in advance if I say 'her left twintail' I mean our right and her left from her P.O.V..

First of all, I quite like the painterly colouring method here- especially on the skin. Hair-shading wise, I think it looks fine too.

I'm pretty sure what you wanted to show us is the new painting style rather than the art itself? Regardless I think the lineart is inconsistent. It has a crayon-feel to the lineart, but the colouring is bold as well, so I don't think using a crayon-texture lineart works for this piece, in the addition that some parts of the hair looks messy as you seem to have coloured over the lineart (bangs and left twin-tail). A small strip of hair in front of the ear has no lineart, like the part of her right twin-tail, bringing out inconsistency to the style in addition of the thickness of the lines that is only displayed on her skin/face and not the hair. The lineartless earrings also give us a confusion to what it might have been.

As said by the person below, the line art isn't cleaned, as so we can see the face guidelines, but in addition also random scribbling around the face seems to make the image look 'dirty'. A line dashing through their left eye, an orange line on her hair to her left twin-tail, random scribbling on her right twin-tail and loops on the right of her left twintail. I think cleaning the piece up would help make the piece look more appealing, like a new lineart (as it can be seen her ears- which line do we follow?) and erasing excessive colours (seems like you only erased partially).

Next let's talk about the painterly-style itself. While I like the painterly style it looks a bit choppy? It's harsh on the shading and it seems a bit hard to focus on where the light source would be (shadows under chin but none under bangs or necklace, darker cheeks than nose), also it doesn't help if you made a mistake (like the bit on the neck you tried to patch up?). I think it just needs more practice on it as you said it's new. Other than that is the hair. While you've done a nice job with the oranges I think lighting (whites) could use some work. In contrast to the painterly style, the lightning looks really solid and harsh against the style, like the blues that stands out too much (looking bold, different brush or opacity?). I think using the airbrush would work with the lighting part.
I think these might help seeing it quite fits with your style?

Last but not least, the face. I think the person below already covered parts of it so I won't drag on. Even though the face seems to be either straight or tilting her left, the left eye is higher than the right. Seeing your guidelines for the nose and lips, I'm wondering if you didn't use any for the eyes? The lips seems to be a little lopsided (a smirk?) and the heart on her cheek flat instead of following the shape. I'm afraid I don't quite know how to explain it so a few references might do you well. Also, does she have two eyebrows?

Overall I think the piece itself looks nice, like how you drew the girl, so I think the only thing is that it needs more practice for the style iteself. Alright. That's all from me. I hope my comment helps and have a nice day!
